A weight loss group in Colchester turned their focus from losing pounds to raising pounds for a national cancer charity.

Slimming World members from across Colchester raised £12,975 for Cancer Research UK in their latest fundraiser event.

The group hosted an initiative to donate clothes they have slimmed out of to donate to the cancer charity as part of the ‘Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’.

Members bought their unwanted clothes and other items for their Slimming World group where consultants took them to The Big Yellow Storage Unit where 519 bags were collected and picked up by two vans.

Alice Turburville, Stanway Rover’s Slimming World consultant and team developer said: "I look forward to the ‘Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’ event as it raises money for a charity that is very close to so many people’s hearts whilst giving our members a chance to celebrate how far they’ve come.

“This year the 519 bags collected by Slimming World members in Colchester are estimated to raise £12, 975. We are all so proud of the generous donations.”

The initiative aims to raise awareness of how keeping a healthy weight can reduce the risk of developing some types of cancer.
