AS spring arrives and people become more active in the garden, the need for disposing of garden waste also increases.
With that in mind, Colchester Council is now offering residents the chance to join its Garden Waste collection service for £35 per bin and an annual service fee of £55.
Sharing a bin with a neighbour, meanwhile, is also permitted, meaning some residents can get the same service but for half the cost.
The bin will be collected fortnightly throughout the year, excluding a a two-week break over the Christmas period.
Council bosses hope the service will save residents the hassle of having to visit the recycling centre and book out a slot.
Residents who are not interested in the collection, however, can either decide to compost it at home or take it to their nearest Essex County Council Recycling Centre.
Through Love Essex residents can also purchase discounted recycling bins and take part in a free online composting course
David King, leader of Colchester Council said: “For residents wishing to sign up, the easiest and quickest way is online with a credit or debit card and details of the property.
"You’ll then be issued with a brown bin if you do not already have one, or a permit to attach to your existing bin.
"If anyone needs assistance in registering online, please contact our Customer Services Team for help.”
