New parking charges at Colchester's Leisure World have been introduced without any problems.
Charges were brought in yesterday to prevent people not using the facilities from parking at the centre for free.
Commuters and shoppers could park there throughout the day without paying, leaving centre users without spaces.
People can still use it as a public car park but now face charges ranging from £1 for an hour to £7.50 for up to nine hours.
Leisure World and Charter Hall customers can park for free by getting their parking tickets endorsed at reception, while gym members can register their number plate.
