Traffic was diverted when an 18-tonne lorry was involved in a collision with a Highways Agency vehicle at the side of the A120 near Dunmow.
Yesterday's crash happened at 10am and those immediately behind the collision had to wait for an hour while the road was cleared to allow one lane to re-open.
Highways Agency workers were clearing drains at the side of the road when the collision happened.
The road was fully re-opened at noon once all debris had been cleared.
