A trip to Stowmarket was the first occasion that the newly-formed Colchester under-nines Romans side had to play another club and a very good start it was.

The scoring of Aaron Geraghty dominated the first-half of their opening game, with four tries before the break and there were also some great physical performances by Liam Beaton and Conall Corcoran.

Oliver Cox set up a fine run by centre Hamish Comonte to score after half-time and a try by Dan McHugh completed a 30-0 win.

Romans’ second game was also won, with two tries by Hamish Comonte and ones by McHugh and Beaton sealing a 20-5 success.

Colchester Normans also faced Stowmarket and had two tries by Sam Rigg and one by Rachel Hoddell, but three late tries for the hosts ensured they won 30-15.

Two UNDER-EIGHTS sides travelled to Stowmarket and won two games, drew one and had a narrow defeat.

Nathan Gardner scored seven tries, with notable performances from Chris Cathcart, George Welsh, Flynn Dalziel and James Carver-Hardy.

At home, the under-eights Gladiators took on the Warriors in a trial arena, with the Warriors winning 16-8.

Tries came from Noah Backhouse (2), Will Kerr, Becky Howe (2), Max Cowan, Alex Gerard, Hugh Stanton, Charlie Speck (2), Kye Simpsons, Billy Coble, Finn MacBrayne, Roman Seal, Edward Lucking and Harry Williams (8). Golden Boot winners were Gerard, Jude Spearing and Williams.

Cambridge provided the opposition for Colchester UNDER-TENS Saints and Saracens at Mill Road.

Saints’ three games proved to be very close, with scores of 2-0, 2-2 and 0-0 showing just how evenly the teams were balanced. Try scorers were Alex Fearn, Oliver Eaves and Josh Fouche.

Saracens also faced tight games, with William Main and Greg Cooke scoring among 4-0 and 2-1 defeats and a 1-1 draw.

Colchester’s UNDER-11s Ravens and Lions had success at Stowmarket.

The Ravens were on top form, with Ben Bouckley and Jordan Milburn turning the opposition ball over at will and Stowmarket had no answer as Leon Fern, James Hoddell (2), Gareth Pugh, Rory Burke (2), Jordan Fester and Milburn all scored.

Fester converted three, Rhys Smith two and Chris Goate one to give the Ravens a 54-0 victory. The Lions had a closer contest and after being 5-0 down at half-time, played with renewed determination in the second half.

Prop Thibaut Hucker made some storming charges, before Alex Godley managed to get away down the wing for a try in the corner and James Patis coolly converted to seal a 7-5 win.

Colchester’s UNDER-12s entertained Braintree and also sent a small squad to Stowmarket.

The Braintree game saw scores from Murray (2), Fearn, Pike and Parry give Colchester a 25-25 draw.

Goodwin, Fenning and Ward led the way as the Saracens proved too strong for Stowmarket in a 15-10 victory.
