Colchester Rugby Club’s UNDER-11s Ravens and Lions squads both faced Southend at home and won both matches, scoring 16 tries in the process.

The Lions were settled by an early try from centre Josh Coleman, followed by full-back Benn Dyson as they led 15-10 at half-time.

Hooker Louis Bettis led his forwards to great effect, ably supported by man-of-the-match, prop Lewis Keeble, with Bettis bagging two tries, before Coleman added his second of the day and fly-half Jack D’arcy and wing Scott Taylor finished off a 35-15 win for the Lions.

The Ravens’ tackling drove back the opposition and as gaps started to appear, Colchester made the most of the open space as the tries started to flow. James Hoddell (2), Jordan Milburn (2), Rory Burke (2), Harry Doughty, Jordan Fester and Tom Hunt all touched down in a 45-5 victory.

Colchester’s UNDER-12s Saracens hosted Southend, winning the first 35-5, before a 10-5 defeat.

At Woodbridge, the Tigers lost 20-5 and the Saints were defeated 30-5.

The UNDER-NINES Vikings had a double success against Southend, winning the first game 15-10 and the second 10-5.

Colchester had to come from 10-0 down at half-time to win the first, with tries by Alex, Hamish and Josh, but they took a 10-0 lead in the following match with scores by Alex and Hamish.

The Saxons enjoyed a 45-0 victory against Southend B with James Bunyan getting a hat-trick of tries, two by Aaron Gerragthy and singles by Sam Rigg, Dan McHugh, Jack Kelly and James Stephens.

And the Romans completed a perfect day for the under-nines as they beat Southend B 30-5.

As soon as the match started the Romans put their pre-match plans into practice with a try from scrum-half Patrick Barker, with another by Oliver Cox just before half-time and scores by Charlie Jacobs, Finn Corcoran (2) and Patrick Barker making it sixafter the break in a very exciting victory.

The UNDER-EIGHTS fielded five sides, with three at home against Southend and two travelling to Sudbury.
