Colchester Rugby Club’s minis sent their B teams to the Southend Festival.

The under-sevens Romans returned with silverware after beating Eton Manor in the final.

Pool victories against Chelmsford, Bishop’s Stortford and Westcliff set up a semi-final against Old Albanians, that saw Colchester come back from a half-time deficit to win 5-4 to book their final spot.

The team of Edward Cox, Joseph Hobbs, Lewis Glancey, Paul Glancey, Zeke Leeson, Jude Mackman, Charles Godsell and Raul Johnson produced the most consistent set of performances seen from them.

The final was a great spectacle, with both teams attacking from all areas of the pitch, but three-second-half tries saw Colchester lift the cup as 6-4 winners.

The UNDER-EIGHTS Panthers came second in their group, before drawing in the semi-final and winning the Plate final 6-4 against Eton Manor.

Scores were by William Mabon (9), Kye Simpson (4), Roman Seal (3), Jed Leeson (3), Brendan Edwards (3), Alex Gerard, Flynn Dalzial and George Welsh.

The Dragons performed admirably with scores by Matthew Denny (9), William Denny (5), Jamie Allen (4), Thomas Sturgeon (2), Joshua Davies and Adam Widlake contributing to an enjoyable day.

Colchester’s UNDER-TENS sent a mix of the Falcon and Raven teams to Southend.

They lost in the group stage to Chelmsford and Old Albanians, before an Asher Morton try sealed victory against Bishop’s Stortford, who they then faced again in the Vase final.

Bishop’s Stortford were seeking revenge, but Colchester, captained bravely by Callum Lockwood, gave their all and a late Oscar Butcher try won the game.

Colchester’s UNDER-11s Lions missed out in the Plate final by the very narrowest of margins.

Having defeated Chelmsford 10-0 with tries by Alex Godley and Scott Taylor, a try by Jack D’Arcy allowed the Lions to beat Bishop’s Stortford 5-0, but a last-gasp try saw them lose 5-0 to Saffron Walden.

Another try by Godley came in a 10-5 semi-final defeat by Upminster and they then lost 5-0 to Saffron Walden in the Plate final.
