Colchester Rugby Club’s UNDER-11s managed a clean sweep and almost kept a clean sheet as they won all their four matches against local rivals Ipswich.

Ably led by skipper Ollie Hills, Colchester Lions went on the attack from the start and their forwards were completely dominant in the loose, while the backs showed good finishing skills.

Centre Alex Godley and Hills both got two tries and there were other scores for James Patis, Daniel Hughes, Ed Gibson and Matthew Bird as Colchester won 45-0.

The Lions kept their foot on the accelerator in their second game as Louise Bettis, Tim Shaikly and Daniel Hughes led the forwards and man-of-the-match Will Davies showed his developing skills in the second row.

The backs were again too fast and too clinical and Godley (2), Hills (2), Scott Taylor, Hughes, Shaikly and Davies all scored in a 40-0 win.

Early tries by centres James Hoddell and Jordan Fester put Colchester’s Ravens on the offensive and sustained pressure from the forwards allowed prop Zac Puckey to cross, before Hoddell strolled in for his second and prop Will Chapman closed the first-half scoring.

It was more of the same after the break, as Hoddell, Doughty and Fester all crossed and conversions by Chris Goate (2), Fester (4) and Pugh completed a 54-0 victory.

Complacency by the Ravens made the second game closer, but two tries from Hoddell and conversions from Fester and Pugh ensured a 14-7 win.

The UNDER-TENS Saints and Saracens also faced teams from Ipswich.

The Saints and Saracens worked hard against Ipswich’s B and C teams, winning three games each and losing one.

Kit Welch for the Saints and William Kempster for Saracens produced some exemplary displays, while link-up play between Kempster, Gil Beresford-Frost, William Main and Thomas Jasinski provided some fine running rugby.

The final scores were 22 tries by Colchester and 15 conceded.

The Ravens and Falcons returned from Hadleigh without wins.

Colchester’s UNDER-12s Saints beat Clacton with tries from Shaikly (3), Hunter (2), Levison, Wharrier, Carruthers, Harkin and Simpson.

The Saracens beat a large Southwold team 3-0, before Roussouw proved a driving force and Campbell a constant threat as they beat Lowestoft and Yarmouth 10-0.

The Tigers proved far too strong for Ipswich, with Arthur Bartleet outstanding throughout and tries from Murray (3), Parry (2), Fearn (2), Brown, Fardell, Shepherd, Cook, Bartleet, Holroyd and Spurling giving Colchester an emphatic win.

Against Brentwood there were UNDER-EIGHTS tries for Becky Howe (4), Brendan Edwards (4), William Denny, Jack Marchington, Cameron Sprott, Thomas Powell, Nathan Gardner, Flynn Dalziel, Billy Coble (2), Hugh Stanton, Edward Lucking, Dylan Sayer and Roman Seal.
