Colchester Rugby Club’s under-17s booked their place in the Eastern Counties Cup final with their best performance of the season.

From the start, Colchester’s pack worked hard to win quick ball for the backs and were rewarded with plenty of possession.

This gave attacking oportunities and first-half tries came from Mark Burch, Charles Hayes-Burt, man-of-the-match Sam Edwards, James West and Will Sizer with two.

Julian Chamberlain converted three of these and the half-time score was 36-0.

Sudbury continued to work hard and had some breaks of their own but the damage was done and further tries came from James West, Adam Chamberlain and Alex Hindle, with two more conversions by Julian Chamberlain before the referee stopped the game with Colchester 53-0 ahead.

There was also cup joy for the UNDER-16s as they beat Woodbridge 29-15 in the first round of the Suffolk Cup.

Woodbridge started strongly and went ahead, but Colchester came back with Connor Ibbotsan scoring their first try.

Danny Higgins, Sam Harman and Ben Norris added further tries for a 24–10 advantage at half-time and their passage into round two was assured after the break with a score by Jim Carpenter.

Colchester’s UNDER-15s also moved into the second round of the Suffolk Cup as they won 52-0 at Bury.

Tries by George Wacokecoke and Tristan Rawcliffe were converted by Dan Lewis, with scores by John Ives and Alex Evans and another conversion by Lewis putting them 26-0 up at the break.

It was all over ten minutes into the second half after Conner McCaffrey had scored from the kick-off, followed by a well-worked try by Tom Ives.

Wackokecoke went over again, Tommy Dufficy added another and the referee stopped the game when Lewis completed a sixth conversion.

The under-15s development side were depleted, but put in a game performance against Saffron Walden and ended up losing 27-7, with their try coming from James Hamblin.

Back in Suffolk Cup action, Colchester’s UNDER-14s had first round joy as they beat Southwold 84-0.

An almost full-strength Colchester side were in no mood to take prisoners and a fine display of discipline, technique and intelligence saw them inflict their heaviest ever defeat on a spirited but shell-shocked Southwold.

Colchester dominated all areas of the game with Alex Blackman scoring five tries by half-time, while other tries came from Rob Jex, Cameron Ives (2), Tom Hughes, Harrey Lee-Allen, Josh James (3) and Harry Badman.

The under-14s B team beat Romford with a last-minute try sealing a 25-22 victory.

And Colchester’s UNDER-13s completed a great day of cup successes for the club as they beat Southwold 41-7 to move into the second round of the Suffolk Cup.

Colchester got off to a great start when winger Charlie Andrews crossed after 39 seconds for a try, which was converted by fly-half Tom Bellis.

Winger James Dudman scored a second, with tries by centre Alex Jackson and flanker Ben Kelland giving a 26-0 advantage at half-time.

Andrews completed his hat-trick and the victory was wrapped up when Harry Dudman scored in the final minute.
