Colchester Rugby Club’s UNDER-13s produced an excellent display of attacking rugby to comprehensively win 76-0 at Bury.

The game was won in a scintillating opening half with Colchester scoring eight unanswered tries following some excellent rugby by all players.

Hooker Adam Cook opened the scoring from close range in the second minute, before centre Simon Holme, winger James Dudman and flanker Ben Kelland all extended the scoring within the opening 15 minutes.

Kelland scored two further tries to become the first Colchester player to register a hat-trick this season, with winger Alex Peterson and centre Frankie Hunt completing the first-half rout.

Colchester lead 44-0 at the break and their dominance continued throughout the second half with the team continuing to create try-scoring opportunities.

Cook got his second of the game and there were more scores by replacement winger Harry Dudman, Hunt and full-back Elliott Hinton, with second row Robert Mills rounding off a superb performance by scoring his first try for the club after some very unselfish play by fly-half Alex Jackson.

Meanwhile, the under-13s development side were unfortunate to lose 27-22 to Saffron Walden in a good open game of rugby.

Colchester dominated territory in the first half with continuous pressure resulting in centre Dan Harding crossing for two tries, one of which was converted by fly-half Liam Martin, before a third try came from centre Charlie Andrews for a 17-0 half-time advantage.

Saffron Walden had come into the game a lot more towards the end of the half and were only denied a try by a wonderful tackle by winger Anish Rajapakse, but it showed their intent and they returned for the second half with a completely changed and much stronger team.

This change immediately led to the home side scoring twice, but Colchester immediately responded when centre Andrews crossed for his second try.

Saffron Walden’s fresher legs began to tell as they game wore on, though, and they went in for three more tries to win by five points.
