‘Colchester and District ladies tennis champion Anita Todd has capped a resurgence in form by winning the Regional Tournament held at Redbridge Sports Centre.

Anita, 17 years old, has recently returned to tennis after a two year break.

Anita entered her first tournament of the year in Kent and reached the semi finals. Following four ratings wins; the tournament at Redbridge showed that Anita is on the right path.

Unseeded, Anita won her first match 7-5 6-1, then a quarter final 7-6 7-5. Anita’s semi final opponent was Nephe Deviana-Horne who had been very impressive in her run to the semis, beating her previous opponent 6-0 6-0. Anita lost the first set 4-6, but her improved fitness levels and confidence helped her take the second 6-4 and the deciding tie-break. This placed Anita into the final to meet top seed Eva Dench.

The loss of the first set on a tie-break did not dent her determination and a 6-1 second set win took the match to a tie-break decider....this was won by a very happy Anita 10-7.

For Anita, who has been out of competition for some time, this was a great confidence builder. Nick Crown, who is working with Anita at Frinton says “Anita has been putting in some very hard shifts over the past few months and this result shows, and is an example to others, that putting in the ‘hard yards’ pays off “ Based on information supplied by Nick Crown.
