Colchester Rugby Club’s minis teams competed at their own festival at Mill Road.

Solid defence gave the pool B trophy to Colchester’s under-sevens Vikings as they edged ahead of Ipswich A and Colchester Romans by virtue of conceding the fewest tries after all three tied at the top on three wins and one loss.

All five of Colchester’s UNDER-EIGHTS teams played well, with Colchester Warriors winning pool A and the Sharks narrowly missing out on the runners-up spot and the Crusaders just being edged out of second spot in pool B.

Three UNDER-NINES teams played, with the Romans finishing second, one place ahead of the Saxons and also the Normans development side.

Conal Corcoran was Romans’ player-of-the-tournament, with Thomas Smith taking the Saxons award and Normans’ Rachel Hoddell.

The Saxons beat Woodbridge A 10-0, Woodbridge B 50-0 and the Normans 30-0, before a 0-0 draw against the Romans.

Romans beat Woodbridge B 40-0, Woodbridge A 15-0, the Normans 35-5, drew 0-0 with the Saxons and lost 15-5 to Sudbury, while the Normans lost all their games.

The UNDER-TENS Saints won their pool and shared the cup with Ipswich A after their encounter in the final ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Colchester’s UNDER-11s Ravens’ win at their own festival meant they lifted the cup for the fifth successive year.

They beat Colchester Lions 20-0, Woodbridge 20-0, Sudbury 15-5 and Ipswich 30-10 in the pool stages to guarantee a final against Ipswich, which they won 15-0.
