Isn't it great to see the smiles back on people’s faces once again.

Supporters and players alike will have been cheered by two home wins, six points and six goals.

Football therapy has done the trick for U’s fans who witnessed the 5-1 drubbing of Exeter City. It’s nice to get some reward for sticking with it and, on the back of those four defeats, our recent upturn in form has been the perfect tonic.

In fact it has pretty much been a good news period, with the announcement that season ticket prices have been frozen for next season and that current holders will receive a discount when renewing.

To be honest, there’s not much change at all other than the award-winning season ticket voucher book being even larger than this year – a postman’s nightmare!

The change that was announced centred on the future of the football club.

Downsizing was mentioned, but in my view it’s just being sensible with all aspects of how to run a football club.

Any agents or players looking for big money will be turned away disappointed from Robbie’s door and I’m all for that.

The U’s are looking for youth development and to develop what players we have with better training facilities.

I would be upset if fans regarded this as a lack of ambition. Far from it, as surely the ambition is to survive at a time when others are really struggling.

To survive, though, the U’s will need as many supporters as they can get.

Not easy to build your hardcore fan base as so many focus on results, but in my opinion the club are doing their very best to attract new faces and have some good ideas in the pipeline.

That’s why I get a little annoyed when certain areas of the media focus on the negative and jump on meaningless messageboard comments.

One I read last week was moaning about the poor access to the WHCS.

Shuttle buses through the town and from Bruff Close, a soon to be completed car park, which is hardly ever full and clears quicker thanks to the new A12 junction.

What more could they possibly do?

I’m not sure if Robbie has a helicopter, perhaps I should ask him!

And after the low attendance against Oldham and Robbie’s statement, they were there again.

One of my colleagues gave a great interview on local radio, but I was amazed at one of the questions – suggesting, with hindsight, that the U’s would have been better off staying at Layer Road.

Hello! If better off is not playing League football, then yes!

Rant over and back to football, and a big well done to the team for the last two wins.

Ashley Vincent has rightly been man-of-the-match for both. Ben Williams has also had two very fine games.

What I liked even more was the confidence that oozed back through the players in the second half.

Fair enough for a time it was against nine men, but they were sent off for denying probable goals.

It was nice to see them enjoy their football again. Hopefully that will bode well for Hillsborough tomorrow and, if possible, I’d like to see us unchanged again.

After all, I’d be gutted to be dropped after a 5-1 win, wouldn’t you?
