Heybridge Swifts beat Essex Senior League side Hullbridge Sports 2-0 to book their place in the Essex Senior Cup quarter-finals.

The match was played on a partially frozen pitch in very low temperatures but the tie survived.

Heybridge had three decent chances early on, with Luke Callander, Reece Morgan and Ryan O'Rawe all registering shots.

They made the breakthrough scored on the half hour when Callander composed himself on the edge of the area, before smashing the ball home.

Six minutes later, O’Rawe saw his chip sail over the Hullbridge keeper but just over the bar.

At the other end, former Swifts player Julian Simon Parson had Hullbridge’s best effort in the first half.

Swifts closed the game out 11 minutes into the second half when Jack Mead’s cross was met by the faintest of flicks from Callander.

Gary Paterson stood out for Hullbridge and Mike Sheeley should have scored from his cross with nine minutes to go, only for the shot to curl over the bar.
