Kayode Odejayi admits he had mixed feelings after Colchester United’s trip to Scunthorpe.

On one hand, the 29-year-old U’s striker was pleased to take a point on the road from a side he believes will be challenging for promotion this year, however, that was tinged with a sense of missed opportunity.

It was Odejayi’s superbly-placed throughball that gave Steven Gillespie the chance to level the scores after the hosts had taken a first-half lead at Glanford Park.

However, the Iron had been reduced to ten men by that point and, for the second game in a row, Colchester failed to beat a side that had had a player shown a red card.

“It was a strange one really,” said Odejayi.

“There was a sense of disappointment as we felt we should have imposed ourselves on the opposition more with them being down to ten men and should have got three points.

“But, on the flip side, to have come away from Scunthorpe, who have just come down from the Championship and are going to want to be there or thereabouts to go back up, you can look at it as a good away point.

“We might have lost that one last year.

“If you look at the manner in which we have lost games, then maybe that would have been possible, but we have come away with a point so we’ll look at the positives.”
