As a striker, Kayode Odejayi knows he is judged first and foremost by the goals he scores for Colchester United, but he is also conscious of his responibilities as a team player.

The 29-year-old front man may not be npower League One’s most prolific hitman, but his forward play has proved invaluable to the U’s in recent weeks.

He was, however, pleased to get the goal that delivered the 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers in midweek and said finding the back of the net at any time will lift a striker’s confidence.

Odejayi said: “You get confidence from scoring goals and getting one will do me the world of good, just as it would for any of the other strikers in the squad.

“But when you are not scoring, you have to look at what else you are bringing to the team.

“You have to be bringing in other people, creating things and working hard for the team and that’s what I look to do, but obviously, first and foremost, my job is to score goals."
