COLCHESTER UNITED SUPPORTERS' ASSOCIATION CHAIRMAN JON BURNS DELIVERS HIS EXCLUSIVE WEEKLY COLUMN IN THE STANDARD WITH HIS VIEWS OF THE U's:

What a week!

I have to admit that I’m still waiting for the adrenalin to stop pumping after the Peterborough game.

It’s probably fair to say that all of the 280 U’s fans there also feel the same way and still are coming to terms with a bloomin’ good game of football.

Both teams went for it and when you consider there were 11 shots on target for each side, plus plenty more missing, it was total football throughout.

Helped I have to say by one of the best refereeing performances I’ve seen for a long while – take a bow Mr Drysdale.

The U’s got so close to the away win they needed, with Mooney and Henderson having the best of the chances.

It would be harsh to find fault with either of them because they both played so well, as did all the players.

Such a turnaround from the flat and unspirited performance at Notts County a week earlier. It made for plenty of head scratching as the man-of-the-match board circulated the CUSA coaches.

You could quickly see just why the Posh fans have got so much value for money this season at home.

Their defence is suspect and they hardly use the midfield, instead they hit the direct ball to their three or four forwards.

The U’s countered this tremendously and I’m still feeling the buzz just thinking about it.

Kayode was virtually untouchable and whatever you may think of him, Tuesday showed that he has the ability and perhaps a goal would fill in the blanks perfectly.

Heath and Clark both had very good games which surely must bring a contract offer to both, if the Huddersfield man is out of contract.

Three points would have been the icing on the cake and even sweeter following the Walsall win. With our goal difference, we’re going to have to get the points on the board at this stage.

I also enjoyed Walsall and was pleased to see a second clean sheet of 2011.

Walsall were equally dodgy at the back and again the U’s could have had more.

I appreciate that the doubters will brand us as goal shy, but at some stage we’re going to give someone a real tonking.

So a good week for the U’s and I’m really pleased, but looking at the table it’s still tight and in reality anybody’s game. The next two see us travel to Plymouth and Bristol Rovers – two clubs at the bad end of the table scrapping for points.

Can the U’s do what we all hope for and come away with four or more points?

In their current form, and if their legs have recovered from Tuesday then I would very much hope so.

John-Joe O’Toole and Gilly played in a friendly this week to boost our numbers which is great news.

Please spare a thought for those early risers boarding the 6.30am coach tomorrow.

Now I’m iPhone geared I’ll be ‘tweeting’ en route to keep fans updated – not bad for a 41-year-old!

Finally, please, please, please also give serious thought to one of the biggest games of the season at the WHCS next Saturday.

Southampton will bring plenty of fans so it’s important that we also do the same.

It’s also a blue and white day so let’s bring plenty of colour too. Get your tickets early and save some money.

Up the U’s!
