The borough's Environmental Champion established Croydon's only ecology centre in Ballards Way, South Croydon, creating a home for a wide range of wildlife. Lorraine Chatfield tends to the Heath Ecology Centre's seven-and-a-half acre orchard and raises money for it by making organic jams, chutneys and preserves from home-grown fruit to sell at fairs.
