COLCHESTER UNITED SUPPORTERS' ASSOCIATION CHAIRMAN JON BURNS DELIVERS HIS EXCLUSIVE WEEKLY COLUMN IN THE STANDARD WITH HIS VIEWS OF THE U's:

I think there’s just a hint of end-of-season fever in the air.

It certainly feels that way and I suppose that when you’ve been fighting the top six for much of the season, to fall away a bit at the end does seem a little bit deflating.

I can understand there will be some disappointment, I feel it too at times, but there is still plenty to play for and lift the mood.

The U’s have eight games to go and for a good number of reasons I would like to see them win five or six of them.

If it’s not to be the play-offs then I would certainly like seventh place.

Didn't we finish last season in eighth, and wasn’t that our fourth best finish in our entire history?

I would like to see us turn over Exeter tomorrow, go to Sheffield next Saturday and turn on the style on the Hillsborough stage, then do the double over Rochdale, who are one of best teams I’ve seen this season.

I’d also like the U’s to improve their away form and as a reward for those journeying to Carlisle, give them three points to savour on the way home.

Then I’d like us to put a halt on the Brighton juggernaught by beating perhaps the eventual champions to prove that we can compete with the very best on our day.

Then of course to finish strongly as we’re at home for the final game of the season to the probably already-relegated Bristol Rovers.

Each and every game has its own significance.

Let’s hope that the players approach them with that same attitude, after all some may be playing for their futures either here or elsewhere.

Tranmere was a long way to go for nothing.

Yes the players tried hard and we did have two cleared off the line, but a U’s team firing on all cylinders would have taken them apart.

Perkins and Ben Coker were the pick of the players in my opinion.

The way that he likes to beat his man and deliver a cross makes me wonder if our young left-back could be useful on the left side of midfield.

Just a thought Mr Ward as you look to your left-sided options. That said, I would like to see us unchanged for a change tomorrow when Exeter visit.

We’ve halted that bad run with victory over Oldham, with a good deal of thanks to Ben Williams and – injuries allowing – I would like to see a bit of continuity.

Let Gilly and Mooney run at the defence, keep the ball on the grass and not up in the air and let’s play some football. Don’t forget folks that it's a 1pm kick-off.

And if you see an Exeter fan wandering around the stadium looking a little bleary eyed, please spare a thought as they’ve probably been on the road since 5am!

If you get there early yourself, then the South Stand concourse is open from 11.30am for food, drink and WC to everyone.

It’s a good, new idea by the club for those who wonder what to do when they’re up at the ground early.

If numbers are good then the club are considering making it more user friendly for next season.

Thanks for your support and please do all that you can from the stands to make it a special end to the season – it’s not over yet folks!

Up the U’s!
