Alan Devonshire is keeping his fingers crossed that one of the FA Cup first qualifying round's plum ties come to Braintree Town.

The Iron boss will be keeping a keen eye on the draw on Sunday lunchtime following his team's 3-2 fourth qualifying round win against Lowestoft at the Amlin Stadium.

It will be only the second time in the club's history that Braintree have been in the first round draw and, with any prize revenue going to boost Devonshire's playing budget, he is hoping for a lucrative fixture.

He said: “We’d like a home draw.

“You don’t want to be greedy, but Portsmouth or Sheffield United on the telly would be nice.

“We’ll have to wait and see what comes out.

“We are through and that’s all that matters.

“It was a hard game as Lowestoft  are a good side and they proved it.

“We should have made it easier, but we didn’t.

“We gave two sloppy goals and a penalty away but we are through and that’s what matters.”
