Rose nets winner for resurgent U's
Joe Dunne continued his fine start to life as Colchester United's new manager by guiding his side to a superb 1-0 win at Swindon Town.
Michael Rose scored a fine free-kick against his former club with 20 minutes to go to put the U's ahead.
And that proved to be the difference between the two sides at the County Ground, as the U's secured their second successive win.
Colchester produced more of the coherent, passing football they had shown in their 3-1 win over Hartlepool United, last Saturday.
Anthony Wordsworth and Sanchez Watt both went close for them in the first half, although U's keeper Mark Cousins was called into action to deny Andy Williams and Raffaele De Vita.
Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio made three attacking substitutions early in the second half, in a bid to get his side ahead.
But Rose struck home his second goal of the season and the U's were fairly comfortable in seeing the game out, to register back-to-back wins in League One.

The work ethic of Joe Dunne/Mark Kinsella & co should be rewarded by a decent home crowd, after we have disposed of Yeovil, of course. ;-)

What a result!!!! I listened to this on the radio and it sounds like colchester was the better side for 90 minutes. I would be interested to hear from anyone who went. Well done to rose. He might make mistakes, but he won the points today. Appears that he was unpopular at Swindon too.

Swindon Advertiser story,headlined :
'Rose a thorn in Town's side.'
Then read comments below.One fan,
Peatmoor Pirate,says : "The chanting about Rose's wife was bang out of order last night.Was ashamed to be a Town fan."
But other fans have reacted indignantly.One supporter,Redhouse Red,says :
"It was fine until Rose wound the fans up.He'd got very little grief until that point.It would never (have)started if he'd (kept)......his head after scoring the goal."
Rose became unpopular with some
Town fans when he played for Swindon.But did the chants last night spur him on and help the U's win
the match?.I hope that the Gazette

Personaly I think it was just cheap talk from Mr Cowling to keep John Ward sweet. Most people never disliked John, it was just the boring way he had the team playing. Im sure he would still get a good welcome from the Col Utd fans if he ever returned as manager of another team.
