Yes the penalty may have been unfair but if we hadn't got it wed still have only drawn, 5 points out of 8 games still means you should go, then throw in the poor run at the end of last season, getting hammered in first round of league cup just sets it stone.
If you walk now you will be timbered as nice guy that you are, if not you will be thought of the manager that gave us the worst ever start to a season in the league, and almost saw attendances half under your reign.
Go on hand in your notice and enjoy your retirement.

2 yes we might have had the worst start ever, and if it continues, it would be the worst season ever, but Ward will go down as the manager with 3 top half finishes in league 1 as manager and assistant. The best run ever in our history.

That said, I am starting to worry about the situation now. I had a restless nights sleep last night with our form on my mind. I was knocked by many last year for accepting boring football if it got us a top ten finish and boy I would take 20th this season right now. I do think we will pick up some points soon but every game that goes by it feels further away. Dig deep is needed now before it is too late

John - if you are reading this and you are still in charge on Saturday against Hartlepool - the way to beat them is to play 3 at the back, a midfield 4 and 3 up front.

Normally Angryman I would agree with this statement about stability. But if you try to look at it from the other angle, you can see why Ward and stability is important.

See, with lambert, Boothroyd etc, you may get a better (not great) style of football and perhaps some success like Parkinson had. But like you say, the managers and players that they bring in will often leave to climb the league ladder. Budgets are spent on higher wages and a few fee's for players. As a result the attendances will always stay at a higher figure for Colchester's standards. However, money is not spent in other areas.

With Ward and the 'stability' you mention, the idea is that he won't want a big transfer budget, and he will shop in the lower league for players as this is his last job. As a result, the club can attempt to spend money on promoting the club around Colchester and the surrounding towns as they have done in Witham and tiptree for example. Set up youth teams and establishing the club in other areas for a long term success. This is something that the club should have done years ago as. YES the attendances are lower right now, but then again 5,000 fans when we had Lambert was not that special either especially for a town the size of Colchester. We should be getting 20,000 fans (stadium permitting) every week like Ipswich do and a core 50,000 fans buying the home shirt and that is the idea behind long term stability mate.

Admittedly right now it does not look like it is working, but it is a long term plan.

So would you rather tread water for ever in league one with 5000 fans and a half decent manager coming and going, or long term sucess with a few hits along the way, even though it might be a risk?

Please re-read my blog. It says that with hard work and a change in mind set, Colchester united could become a hub for the community in north Essex. Potential 20,000 attendances are not a million miles away. Hull managed it as have many others.

If you are happy treading water with 5000 other col u fans watching good managers come and go, then occasional promotions and relegations I suggest you attend the walk in clinic yourself myfriend.

I never said ward was the right manager either. Especially if he relegates us. I am commenting on angry mans comments about stability only and giving him my opinions only.

I have to say I was never thrilled at the prospect of Mr Ward taking over from Mr Boothroyd. Super, I agree the club is terribly supported and should get much higher attendances, I also agree that certain things the clubs been doing with buses in around town and surrounding towns is good.
My view is that the 'stability' the club is after is unrealistic, as all managers and players want to test themselves at the highest level, so successfully players and mangers will always move on, we're better off hoping that mangers, players see Colchester as a club they can progress at.
I also do agree with you though that the increase in youth development and training ground is long over due, and this is a good sign for the club. However football is a results related industry and were not going to get fans through the gates when were losing but saying to them it's ok in a generations time we will have a good squad

I have watched Ward this season and he is as animated as a corpse in the technical area, is it any wonder this bunch of going through the motions alleged footballers don't respect him either? He has acquired some very good players in the past six months but has failed to get rid of the spent dead beats that make up the rest of the squad.

He should do the noble thing and jack before you are getting less supporters than Chelmsford and Braintree, because once they have gone they will be a long time coming back and I suppose that will be the fault of the people with the valid points on here to?

Wrong again super waluigi! The U’s finished 8th, 7th and 5th in the Third Division in three consecutive seasons (1977-78, 1978-79 and 1979-80).
