Ward - I can turn U's fortunes around
John Ward has insisted he can turn Colchester United ’s fortunes around after their poor start to the season.
The U’s dropped into the League One relegation zone, following their 1-0 defeat at Brentford.
Colchester are yet to taste victory this season after five matches and have made their worst start to a league season since 1996.
But despite their disappointing results, Ward is adamant that the U’s will rediscover their form.
He said: “I have reasonable confidence in myself – I’ve been a manager for quite a long time.
“You have to have faith in football - once that leaves me, I’ll go somewhere else and do another job and not in football.
“It’s great when you’re winning because everybody wants to pat you on the back.
“It’s not so good when you’re not winning but I’m confident in what I’m trying to do with this group of players.
“After games like the one at Brentford you have to keep your strength, if that’s the right term.
“I think we’re doing a lot of things right.
“We’re not getting the results that we want but if we start throwing toys out of the pram and do things totally differently, the players will look at me differently.
“We have to make sure that when we come into training today that my spirits are up and that is relayed to the players."
