  • "Good old crazy, don't knock him, we know he loves the U's even if we don't always agree with everything he says.
I wasn't there either (busy campaigning for Bobby Hunt in the local elections) but I was pleased that Col U won that epic struggle for 10th place and more importantly there were plenty of goals and more for us than for them.
    Up the U's."

U's finish their home campaign in style

Colchester United finished their home campaign on a high note this afternoon with an entertaining 4-2 win over Tranmere Rovers, at a rain-sodden Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Ian Henderson headed the U's ahead after three minutes from Brian Wilson's cross.

Anthony Wordsworth came close to making it 2-0 soon after and Henderson clipped the bar with another header, as Colchester started the game well.

The U's went further ahead early in the second half through Tom Eastman's far post header from the impressive Lloyd James' pass.

James Wallace pulled a goal back with a long-range low effort soon after, before Ian Goodison's own goal restored Colchester's two-goal advantage.

Lucas Akins' effort deflected in off Jake Cassidy for Tranmere's second goal to give them hope but a fine solo effort by substitute Freddie Sears sealed a fine win for the U's and ended their run of 11 matches without a win in League One.
