John White became a father for the first time – and then helped Colchester United produce yet another clean sheet.

Little more than 24 hours after his wife Lianne had given birth to baby Jacob at Colchester General Hospital, the popular U’s left-back played his part in his side’s 0-0 draw at old foes Wycombe Wanderers.

It was Colchester’s third successive shutout and they have now not conceded a goal in nearly five and a half hours of football.

White said he was pleased to cap a memorable few days by helping the U’s to a positive result at Adams Park.

He said: “Friday was without doubt the best day of my life.

“I’m obviously over the moon and it’s a great feeling to have a new addition to the family.

“It’s not a nice feeling to leave them when you know you’re not going to see them until the next evening.

“But we knew with football that might happen anyway and we were expecting it.

“I’d had enough rest and managed to get through the game.

“It’s not difficult to remain focused, once you get out on the pitch.

“You just have to put the tiredness to the back of your mind.

“You’re just thinking about the game and concentrating on that.

“As soon as the warm-up starts, you’re in football mode and that’s all you’re concentrating on.

“We’re very pleased with the clean sheet.

“It’s something that we’ve been working very hard on in training and we knew we had to improve within the last few games.

“It seems to be paying off because we’ve been doing well.”
