Colchester United legend Karl Duguid has returned to the club on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old is back at the club he served so well for 14 years, after agreeing a one-year deal with the U's.

Duguid had been training with John Ward's side, having left Plymouth Argyle at the end of last season.

But he has impressed Ward enough over the last few weeks to earn a permanent deal with Colchester, with whom he made nearly 450 league and cup appearances during a distinguished first spell at the club.

Duguid, a YTS product for Colchester United, stands in seventh position in the U's league appearances list, after more than a decade of loyal service in his first spell at the club.

He was a substitute in Colchester's Division Three Play-Off Final win over Torquay United in 1998 and helped the club win promotion to the second tier of English football for the first time in their history, in 2006.

Duguid also battled back from a serious knee injury suffered in a game at Stockport County in March, 2004.

He left the U's in 2008 to join Plymouth Argyle but has now returned after a three-year absence and is set to play his first-ever game at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Duguid becomes the U's third summer signing, following the arrivals of Michael Rose and Tom Eastman at the club.

The club is going down the pan fast. Duguid is a has-been and I am amazed that with the reduced budget the useless Ward is operating under, he has found time to take him back, and yet can't, or will not, get a striker in, either on loan or as a permanent signing. Pathetic.

I'm gobsmacked. Talk about going forwards this is going backwards. We already have Wilson and White as full backs so why the hell do we need another. Doogie good servant in his day but this shows to me what WARD really is as a manager. Surely this wage would have been better spent on Cureton who would have scored goals. COWLING should quit now because soon he will be in the high street sitting on the pavement with a collection box.

No doogie bashing my friend just the plain honest truth he is far to slow for Div 1 much like Izzet. Can you honestly tell me the benifit of signing him. Please give me a truthfull answer. No one should be running a football club if you show no ambition to do well and this club certainly now fits the bill.

Nora please read correctly, that I did not claim to have bought a season ticket for £199. What I did say was that I could get one for £199 which is 100% correct to watch a top team Southampton playing in the championship. Thats value for money. I have not bought a season ticket at Southampton reason that I do like to watch other teams play as well. I have Brighton, Bournmouth Portsmouth Exeter all within 2 hours travelling distance. Brighton started last season without any expensive players but what they did have was a manager that made his team play for each other and to never stop running. I may be the laughing stock and a sad pathetic plank but for the last two seasons I have forecast correctly by christmas the teams that would get promoted and I was spot on. If you saw the amount of football that I watch in the season you would then see how bad some of the performances were last year. Yeovil away was far by the worst i have ever seen a team perform and what did Ward do about it. Sweet eff all. No wonder Bowditch did not want to come to Colchester as he could see what a bad team we were. By the way why dont you blog the others that have the same views as me on here.

I think there is come over-reaction here. Duguid is a model professional, he undoubtably had his best years with us and it shows he should never have left in 2008. He is a great person to have around the club and will be a great advocate for the community again and getting involved with the new youth policy in place.

Those people that just simply live life to moan need to have a little bit more respect and appreciate what the people in charge are trying to do. It's not easy, on a decreasing budget, to keep the fans happy regarding first team affairs and juggle a youth policy that will be gathering speed in the coming months. I will be happy with a top 10 finish again, although I feel there is room for us to compete with the top 6, if we can sort out the away form. I don't believe the negative comments are because we are signing players that people don't want to see, it's because the fans have disliked Ward ever since he walked in the doors, the man can't do anything right for some people, at least he isn't splashing ridiculous money on flops (Lambert & Joel Thomas, for example).

I am in full support of Ward. Those "fans" who claim to support the club with all the pessimistic comments need a bit of a reality check. Sorry. It's not fair on Ward and or Cowling. What do the fans want? Messi? Ronaldo? No. Have a bit of trust and respect for them.

Back to Duguid, I think it's a good buy. The fans like him, the players that were here before 2008 like him and even the new ones will. Also, like someone else mentioned, a future staff role for him maybe? Who knows.

Whats the point of running a football team or any business without forward planning. John Ward is a nice bloke as well but he has not got that ruthless streak in him that is needed to be successfull. You knock Lambert as a flop. Get real man. This club can sell two of its top players tommorow if it wished Ben Williams and Magnus and make a nice profit, both signings of Lambert. Fox and Tierney another two Lambert signings were both sold at profits. You are like a good many other people can see no further than the end of your nose.

Actually, if you take time to read it, maybe I didn't make it clear enough. I meant that Lambert signed flops like Thomas. I thought Lambert did a great job for this club.

As you may have noticed your negative comments are not being noticed and ye Ward is anice guy but his track record speaks for itself. We are, at the moment, at top half of the table League One club. We had 1 good year in the Championship with a euphoric striking partnership that was a once in a million. And a home ground that everyone hated visiting. We have the potential to be a Championship club but throwing money at it didn't work and like Cowling keeps reiterating we might have to go back a few steps before we move forward.
CUFC2011

If my so called negative comments are not being noticed why is it then I'm being bombarded back with non constructive comments. I'm a very positive and passionate person that dont stand fools. Thats why from a business point of view I see the downfulls and mistakes that have been made. Im proud of what I achieved a lot more than many other people can say,and been very successfull. At least I get these blog pages going or otherwise they would stay stagnant without comments.

Crazy crackers...Why dont you go and "Boil Your Head".. The other day You claimed that you bought a Southampton season ticket for £199. You'll be telling us next that you will be paying 20p for a pint with a free burger thrown in. You are just so full of sh1t, Dont you know? you are a laughing stock on this site.
If I remember, Crazy, you predicted Norwich ( correct ) and Swindon to go up a couple of seasons ago. You might have mentioned Leeds for the playoffs only and I don't remember Millwall being mentioned at all.

Funny how things change, re Swindon.

Crazy, 1st, your comments ARE negative. There is nothing constructive about predicting bad results and poor performances, based on history or otherwise.
2nd nobody is saying you are not passionate, We all are!!!! So no respect gained there.

But this is crazy, Crazy. It seems very clear to me that no one here struggles with providing a balanced, mature, humble, respectful, and thoughtful opinion as much as you do. Honestly, have a look at yourself man! I'm not aiming to offend you but I really do wonder why you need to be so offensive and disrespectful to others, including RC and JW. We only have your word for it that you are a superior business man and football expert. Why are you calling those with different views to you "arrogant thick planks" with "dementia"? You have no right to appoint yourself as the exponent of the majority view any more than anyone else on here. People will be reluctant to offer their opinions on here if they think you will call them idiots for it!

To Jimlan and the rest of the Crazy haters. All I can say its a well known saying that many North Essex people have a big chip on their shoulder and have no sense of humour. Sometimes I think that may be true. I was born in the East End of London which was hard,so like most Eastenders dont mince my words. I dont go creeping behind people back's back stabbing. Naturally now living down south I look at the views on the southern Echo web site and its full of banter which we should be doing on here. At least I do have the guts to say what I feel, may be right may be wrong. You are all entitled to your contructive views which so many of you fail to put on this site, yet criticise the others that do. I hope that I am proved wrong with my views and your support for R.C. and J.W. in what they are doing might be right. Hopefully the U's wil do okay this season but for me after supporting the club 58 years this will be a season when my visits to watch them will now stop. I intend now in my retirement to watch as many different teams play this season as I possibly can. Brighton have a new ground that is fantastic, just behond believe so im looking forward to going there, plus watching Greg Halford & Chuck Norris who is a good friend of mine at Pompey. Finally I am now going to make every ones day very happy by making this my last blog on this evening gazette site. At least the U's still have 3000 odd supporters to fill the breeze block morgue. I dont hold grugdes, never have, never will, so I wish everyone all the best for the coming season and hope the U's do well. Regards Crazy.

Don't be silly crazy, a bit of criticism never did any harm.

Thanks Boris. I think my views have often been taking the wrong way. I have only ever wanted what I thought best for Col Utd. I have supported this club since I was 7 years old and along the way had some fantastic experiences with those memories never forgotten. I really appreciate your comment.

Everyone is welcome to post an opinion.

Love it or hate it, we have all been there.
I am not a "Crazy hater", hope nobody is. Crazy and all of us surely have the right to give our views. My point was just that: everybody is entitled to disagree (with Crazy or anybody else) without being called arrogant and ignorant. True banter is a laugh but disrespect ain't. (I could be wrong!)

I hope that I am proved wrong with my views and your support for R.C. and J.W. in what they are doing might be right. crazy, I hope you repent of your decision. Your comments over recent years have always been challenging and interesting. Even though I don't always agree with you, I know whatever you say is meant constructively. Please don't disappear, this website will be a poorer place without you.
Thanks Boris. I think my views have often been taking the wrong way. I have only ever wanted what I thought best for Col Utd. I have supported this club since I was 7 years old and along the way had some fantastic experiences with those memories never forgotten. I really appreciate your comment. Thanks again Boris your a gent.
Only just spotted your reply, crazy. Thanks for sticking with us. I have watched the U's since Benny Fenton was player-manager, which I think is nearly as long as you. I was a shareholder in this club until Cowling compulsorily bought my shares. Like you, I hate the breezeblock morgue. But despite everything they throw at us, I still support the U's.
You can go and live somewhere else, as I did for a good many years (and as you have done more recently), you can appreciate other teams, but your childhood club will always be there in your heart, so I'm sure that, like me, you will never tear yourself away from the U's altogether, no matter how often our poorly-managed players snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Anyway crazy, don't let anyone wind you up too much. We all try to do that to each other from time to time, but it's not worth taking seriously.
