Duguid grateful for U's opportunity
11:17am Wednesday 6th July 2011 in Sport By Jonathan Waldron
Karl Duguid says he is enjoying life back at Colchester United.
But the former U’s favourite stressed his return to north Essex is purely to build up his fitness, ahead of the new campaign.
Duguid has joined in with pre-season training at Colchester, where he spent 14 seasons, after leaving Plymouth Argyle at the end of last season.
However, the popular 33-year-old revealed there has been no talk about re-joining his former club for a second spell.
Duguid said: “It’s an ideal opportunity for me and I’d like to thank Colchester for giving me the chance to train with them.
“I appreciate them helping me - it’s nice and local for me and it’s good to be in that environment again.
“I’m really enjoying it - the manager has been great and the staff have been great, too.
“Colchester is all geared up to achieve good things.
“It’s a close-knit squad which is good and they’re a good bunch of lads.”

Ideally, we are looking for a new or pair of strikers. I know I have been ridiculed for saying it, but there is a lot of local talent available virtually free so it would be good to see the club try out some of this talent for a change. We have proved with Ben Coker that the step up can be accomplished, so I would encourage possibly considering this. Doesn't seem possible that Karl is now 33! I remember him when he was a raw 17 year old! Come on Mr Ward and Mr Cowling, you need to speculate to accumulate or we may perish in your hands this coming season! We need a goalscorer (or two) proven at this level. We have let slip too many of them and it is really disappointing. With an attitude like you have mentioned in the press, it is unlikely that we are going to move forward this season. I wish you had some drive and ambition about you, but alas it seems you don't and it will be to the detriment of the club. Up the U's!
