Karl Duguid says he is enjoying life back at Colchester United.
But the former U’s favourite stressed his return to north Essex is purely to build up his fitness, ahead of the new campaign.
Duguid has joined in with pre-season training at Colchester, where he spent 14 seasons, after leaving Plymouth Argyle at the end of last season.
However, the popular 33-year-old revealed there has been no talk about re-joining his former club for a second spell.
Duguid said: “It’s an ideal opportunity for me and I’d like to thank Colchester for giving me the chance to train with them.
“I appreciate them helping me - it’s nice and local for me and it’s good to be in that environment again.
“I’m really enjoying it - the manager has been great and the staff have been great, too.
“Colchester is all geared up to achieve good things.
“It’s a close-knit squad which is good and they’re a good bunch of lads.”
