U's defender Baldwin is hungry for FA Cup progress

Pat Baldwin is ready to pits his wits against some of the world’s biggest stars again in the FA Cup.

But the Colchester United defender has insisted there will be no complacency when the U’s do battle with non-league minnows Swindon Supermarine in the second round tomorrow.

Baldwin locked horns with the likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien when Colchester took on Premier League giants Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round, in 2006.

The 28-year-old would dearly love the chance to test himself against similar quality in this season’s competition.

But the popular defender knows the U’s must first dispense of Zamaretto League premier division outfit Supermarine, before they dream of taking on more of football’s superstars.

Baldwin told the Gazette: “The Chelsea game was a great occasion and a great experience.

“It was fantastic to have the chance to play against some of the best players in the world and that’s why we want to progress in the competition.

“We raised a few eyebrows when we went to Chelsea but I think Swindon Supermarine will be trying to do the same tomorrow.

“They might be a non-league side but we shouldn’t expect to beat anyone.

“They’re there on merit and we won’t be taking them lightly."

Good luck to the U's today, I really don't think there'll be any slip ups. I wont be there, Just leaving for Wycombe , and I'm sure all U's fans will be with me in hoping to see an upset there! And a more realistic chance, surely, the gulf will be no where near as great at Adams Park as it will be at the Community. Up the U's! And up the City - wheel 'em in!
