U’s legend Karl Duguid is ready to face former club Colchester United this weekend for the first time since quitting the club more than two years ago.

Duguid, who spent 14 years with the U’s, is set to play against them for Plymouth Argyle when the two sides meet at the Weston Homes Community Stadium tomorrow.

Duguid told the Gazette: “It will be strange to go back.

“It’s another away game but there’s the added thing of the fans and all of the people I grew up with over the 14 years I was there.

“I still speak to the likes of Kem Izzet and Pat Baldwin and I’ve been to watch a few games at the new stadium.

“The ground is superb - when we got relegated (from the Championship) it was a rebuilding process, because we lost a lot of players.

“George Williams went after doing a great job and Paul Lambert and Aidy Boothroyd have come and gone since.

“With that, players have come and gone too.

“It needed a bit of stability and I think the appointment of John Ward and Joe Dunne has given them that.

“Joe has stepped back in the past and played a bit part at times but he deserves his chance now.

“Kem is captain and that’s something he deserves too, because he’s grown up at Colchester.

“He deserves his testimonial year - he’s been through bad times like any other player.

“But everyone knows what an important player he is to Colchester United.”

Duguid will be part of a Plymouth side searching for their first victory in npower League One since the opening day of the season.

“We had a great result at Southampton on the first day and then got a point against Carlisle,” said Duguid.

“We then went to Walsall and lost which was disappointing.

“The performance against Peterborough was chalk and cheese to lose 3-0, because it was good in the first half and bad in the second.

“We missed out on a game last weekend because of the international games, which wasn’t ideal.

“We wanted to get straight back out there after a defeat.

“But it’s been nice for the manager to work with the players in training and get a few of his ideas across.”
