Ravi Bopara and Alastair Cook will play their final game for Essex this evening before joining up with the England squad for the Ashes.
Essex face Surrey at the Brit Oval in the Twenty20 Cup this evening and are looking to move a step closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals.
They currently sit fourth in the South Division – one point behind second-placed Hampshire, who they face on Sunday.
Essex are in some of their best form of the season, having hammered Middlesex on Monday night in the Twenty20, and beaten Kent in the championship last week.
But they need to make the most of Cook and Bopara’s inclusion, according to skipper Mark Pettini.
He said: “As a team we are playing really well and having Alastair and Ravi obviously helps.
“While they are with us, we need to make sure we take maximum points.”
Essex have named a 13-man squad for tonight’s game and are likely to go with an unchanged line-up from the one which eased past Middlesex.
Squad: Mark Pettini – captain, Varun Chopra, Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Grant Flower, Matt Walker, James Foster – Wicket Keeper, Ryan ten Doeschate, Graham Napier, James Middlebrook, David Masters, Danish Kaneria, Chris Wright.
