ON a glorious autumn Sunday Five Lakes held the Autumn Trophy where the golfers play matchplay against the course.

As is normal, not many golfers beat the course against their handicap.

Two players finished on -1, Andy Clover (12) and club Captain Roger Hyman (19), to be just outside the main prizes.

Third place went to Mike Owen (16) who finished level.

The top two places were decided on countback.

Second place went to Frank Taylor (19) on +1 but the winner of the Autumn Trophy for 2015 was David Rogers (5).

Birdie balls were won by Mike Owen on the 11th and Clive Taylor on the eighth, par threes, while Mark Harlow won balls for an Eagle on the par five 18th.

Five Lakes Seniors contested the John Floyd Trophy honouring one of the club’s past members.

The competition attracted ten three-man teams and was played in damp and breezy conditions that appeared alien to the conditions experienced over the past few weeks.

The format was a three-ball ‘3-4-5’ stableford with aggregates of three scores on the par threes, two scores on the par fours and one score on the par fives.

All teams returned some good scores but although vice-captain David Barbour carded a couple of par three birdies, his team, scoring 84, was well beaten into second place by the dominant combination of Peter Gee, Barry Painter and Ron Colbert who returned an unassailable score of 91 points.

Played on the Lakes Course, main results: 1 Peter Gee, Ronnie Colbert and Barry Painter 91 pts, 2 David Barbour, John Grant and Keith Codling 84 pts, 3 Tony Tyler, Steve Green and Clive Jenner 83 pts, 4 Peter Ivey, Ray Saxer and Mike Martin 79 pts, 5 Bryan Thompson, Alan Blois and Paul Raymond 76 pts.

In the Birdie Two competition, David Barbour had success at the eighth and 11th holes and Keith Codling at the 11th.

The nearest the pin competition was won by Barbour and Raymond at the eighth and 11th holes respectively.
