Colchester United manager Tony Humes said he was disappointed with the result but not the performance after his team's winning run was ended by Bury.

The U's were beaten 1-0 by the Shakers, a result that ended their four-match winning run and saw them fall to their first home defeat since March, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Colchester were unlucky not to score before Leon Clarke headed in Bury's winner with 15 minutes remaining, to help the visitors extend their own winning run to seven matches.

Humes said: “I’m disappointed because you want the run to keep going for as long as possible.

“But I’m not disappointed with the performance in the slightest, because I thought that it was good.

“It’s just one or two areas where we have to be a bit sharper.

“On another day, we’d score three or four there and that’s the positive thing about it.

“It was a very tight game all the way through.

“I thought that they showed us a lot of respect and there wasn’t much in it.

“I thought we dominated the majority of the game and had the better of the chances but the keeper has made three or four fantastic saves.

“We keep saying that the first goal wins the game and they’ve nicked it.

“We’re disappointed but it’s another good performance where we’ve played well and we’ve stuck to our principles.

“We just fell short and we just couldn’t get that goal.

“Bury are a good team; they’re very well organised and they pass it and they play.

“Credit to them because they defended very well and they paid us a massive compliment with how they played.

“They’ve got some good players and Leon Clarke popped up and scored another goal.

“But I thought we played the better football and put them off their game a little bit - we had a lot of territory but they defended very well."
