Marvin Sordell has been tipped to go from strength to strength for Colchester United after the striker netted his first goal for the club.

That is the view of U’s boss Tony Humes, who was delighted to see Sordell bag a dramatic late winner in their 3-2 win at Sheffield United.

Sordell, who joined Colchester on a free transfer last week, has now completed two full games for his new club and helped them take four points from a possible six.

And after the former Burnley striker netted his first competitive goal since scoring against Spurs in an FA Cup third-round replay at White Hart Lane last January, Humes was full of praise for his new forward.

Humes said: “Marvin’s been terrific for us and he’s a great signing.

“I’m delighted he got a goal, albeit a deflected one - I’m sure it’ll go down as his.

“Marvin’s got quality - you can see that from his combination and link play with George Moncur for the first two goals.

“He’s a good finisher and a quality player and he showed that in a lot of areas.

“He’s a handful and defenders don’t like getting too tight to him, because he can move them and see people running off him.

“He’s still getting back to sharpness and it’s been hard for him to have two 90-minute games in four days.

“But he’s shown what quality he has and the more he gets to know the players, the more we’ll see his movement and we’ll get more out of him.”
