Colchester United are on the verge of signing an experienced new goalkeeper.
Boss Tony Humes is hoping to complete the deal today and it could be that the shot-stopper is drafted straight into his squad for tomorrow’s League One trip to Chesterfield.
Regular keeper Sam Walker is out injured for the rest of the season and although the U’s boss recently signed young Dillon Barnes, he wants back-up for current number one Elliot Parish.
James Bramsgrove, another youngster on the club’s books, is also injured.
“We’re close to signing a goalkeeper and hopefully it will be completed today,” said Humes.
“We’re very hopeful he’ll be in the squad for Saturday.
“It’s something we’ve been looking at.
“Dillon has lots of potential but he’s still a very young man and hasn’t played any league games yet.”
