Danny Cowley has welcomed the chance his Braintree Town players have had to “recharge their batteries” this week ahead of a busy Bank Holiday weekend of football.

With no Tuesday game this week, the Iron’s players have had an opportunity to catch their breath and get treatment for any knocks after a hectic start to the Vanarama National League season.

However, they return to action with a trip to Welling United on Saturday before entertaining Aldershot Town at the Avanti Stadium on Monday (kick-off 3pm).

Cowley’s team will be looking to extend their good run that has seen them take seven points from their last three outings and the Iron boss has been pleased to have a break ahead of two tricky fixtures.

“Welling and Aldershot back-to-back are two tough games,” he said.

“For us, it’s good to have a week break before it because when you are a small squad it gives a chance to get over a few little niggles that may be in the group.

“It’s a chance for the players to recharge the batteries, which is vital for us. You can see from the opening run of games that the players have put in an awful lot of effort and energy into their performances. So when we can have down time and a free week, it’s good to give them some rest and recuperation.

“However, within that, we’ll turn our focus on to Welling and it will be another tough game.

“We know Welling quite well and it’s then Aldershot.

“With the games coming quickly over the Bank Holiday weekend, you have to make sure that physically and mentally that you are ready for it and we expect it."
