Colchester United forward Macauley Bonne is hoping his strike at Peterborough United will trigger a goal glut for him this season.

The 19-year-old marked his first league start for more than five months with a goal, in the U’s 2-1 defeat at London Road.

Bonne led the line for Colchester in the absence of skipper Chris Porter, who was ruled out again with an ankle injury.

And the former U’s academy player said while he was disappointed with the final result, he was delighted to hit the target so early in the campaign.

Bonne said: “It’s good to get off the mark for the season so early and hopefully there’ll be many more to come – hopefully it’s just the start for me."
