ALEX Gilbey has vowed to contribute more goals next season.

And as part of his quest to chip in on a regular basis, he has been studying DVDs of world stars Zinedine Zidane and Steven Gerrard.

The Colchester United midfielder has only managed three goals for the U’s, but netted twice in Tuesday’s pre-season success against Ipswich Town.

They were his first-ever at the Weston Homes Community Stadium - something he hopes to build on in today's final friendly against Fulham.

And he has already set himself a target of ten goals next season.

“Tuesday was a very special night for me,” said vice-captain Gilbey.

“My goals meant a lot, as I’ve been doing a lot of work on timing my runs and scoring more from midfield.

“I’ve spoken to the gaffer and it’s definitely something I need to improve on and build into my game.

“I’m setting myself a target of ten and if I can get anywhere near that I’ll be happy."
