STUART Reece-Ford was a clear winner of Maldon Golf Club’s Walter James Putter.

The second round of the 36-hole scratch championship took place on Sunday.

Maldon’s assistant greenkeeper Reece-Ford (3 hcp) followed his first round 77 with a fine, two-over-par, score of 73 for a 150 total to win the competition by nine clear shots.

This was Reece-Ford’s sixth victory in the club scratch competition in 11 years.

Second place overall went to Dave Poynton (6) with rounds of 80 and 79 for a 159 total, while third place went to Mark Hinton (7) on 161.

Billy Mason (4) and Pete Hawkins (5) tied for fourth place on 163.

The 36-hole divisional prizes went to David Follows (11) on 166 in division two and Jim Scott (19) on 194 in division three.

Prizes were also awarded for the best scores in week two and these went to Reece-Ford in division one (73), Richard Nash in division two (83) and Jim Scott in division three (93).

In other events, the July monthly medal was won by Richard Sanderson with a fine nett 66, claiming victory by four clear shots.

Walter James champion Reece-Ford was second with a nett 70 while Martyn Cook pipped Andrew Crozier to third place on countback after both players shot nett 71.

Maldon’s Ladies contested the Clark Cup, a singles stableford competition.

The winner on 31 points was Sue Gardiner, second on 28 was Sally Francis.

Margaret Royle was third with 27 on countback from lady captain Kate Stevenson.
