MALDON and Tiptree boss David Wright is continuing to mould his side.

Ryman League division one north Jammers are hosting National League South’s Chelmsford City in their latest pre-season match tonight at Park Drive.

Maldon have had a number of in-house and behind closed door games since their 3-2 defeat to Thurlow Nunn League premier division Stanway Rovers on July 10.

Wright said: “We had a good behind-closed-doors game against Brantham on Saturday, which we won 7-1.

“The players are beginning to understand what we want from them, our patterns and style of play.

“It’s an on going thing throughout pre-season for the players to understand how we want them to play.

“It’s helpful in the things that we want to get across.

“But it’s not something that will suddenly come to a halt and we say everything's finished and how we want it.

“We will be touching on things throughout the season and tweaking things as they come up.”

Wright believes that every game will bring something new to his players and their attitude to playing football.

He added: “It will be beneficial for the younger players and what we are working on.

“We want them to be thinking about their style of play and understanding of the game.

“So that they can see things on the pitch and change them.

“So that we don’t have to be shouting at them from the sidelines to change things.”

Wright isn’t aiming to add to his squad at the moment as he looks at how his players perform.

But that isn’t to say that things will not happen on that front before the start of the new season.

Wright added: “The squad is as it is.

“In a week or so there may be some changes but we are keeping things as they are for the moment.”
