Colchester professional Jamie Robinson battled his way through to the quarter-finals of round 13 of the Players Championship, in Wigan.

Robinson was in good form at the Robin Park Tennis Centre, beating Wayne Jones 6-4 in the first round before seeing off Dean Winstanley by the same scoreline, in the next stage.

Robinson then edged to a narrow 6-5 victory over Stephen Bunting in the last-16 before bowing out at the quarter-final stage after losing 6-2 to Keegan Brown.

Robinson earned £2,000 in prize money for reaching the quarter-final stage of the 13th round, which was won by James Wade.

The following day, Robinson’s progress in round 14 was halted by current world number two, Phil Taylor.

Darts legend Taylor ran out a 6-4 winner, before eventually going out to Peter Wright in the last 16.

Robinson had earlier beaten Kevin Thomas 6-2, to book his meeting with Taylor.

Fellow Colchester professional Colin Lloyd went out in the first round of round 13, after losing 6-4 to Alan Tabern.

He beat Prakash Jiwa 6-2 in his first-round clash in round 14, before losing 6-1 to Michael Smith in the following round.
