Colchester United boss Tony Humes says he is willing to play the waiting game as he looks to further strengthen his squad for next season.

The U’s began their preparations for the new League One campaign this week, after starting pre-season training.

Colchester have so far added Richard Brindley and Matthew Briggs to their squad.

Humes is on the lookout for around four more signings but says he is knows he may have to be patient, in his quest to bolster his squad.

Humes said: “We feel we’re getting there with the ones we want and hopefully by the start of next week, we’ll have some news.

“Hopefully there’ll be at least one addition, with the potential for others.

“We’re being very patient and we won’t be making knee-jerk signings.

“We want to get things sorted out but we also understand that players have to examine all of their options at this time of year.

“We’re now in July and that usually means that things start speeding up a bit, as players generally stop getting paid by their previous clubs.

“Most clubs have started pre-season now and players don’t want to miss out.”
