THREE of the Playgolf Colchester squads ended winning runs, with two getting the furthest in their respective competitions the club has ever gone, showing superb progress.

The Leslie F Wood team lost in their first quarter-final appearance against Ilford who showed their winning potential by leading 4-1 after the morning foursomes.

Tom Earl and Richard Schultz took the point for Playgolf.

In the afternoon matches, Ilford slowly pulled away and secured the win before the halfway point.

The Playgolf singles points came from Earl and Lee Kidger taking a point each and Steve Loran and Richard Swindells both taking half points to make the final score 10-4 to Ilford.

The Jubilee Cup squad ended their season with an away defeat to Five Lakes, to finish in tied first position on six points, but missing out on the knockout stages on holes difference.

Bruce Critchley got the side off to a great start winning by 3&2.

Elias Fantousi followed with a 6&5 win. Matt Gladman halved his match and the doubles team of Matt Clark & Harry yearling won 3&2.

The third round of the Norman plum competition saw Playgolf Colchester take on Crondon Park with Crondon Park winning the match 5-1 to progress to the quarter-finals.

The win for Playgolf came from Sam Durrant and Nathan Soton who remain undefeated in this year’s competition.

Mick Farr (10) carded a plus three card to win division one of Playgolf’s weekend’s par/bogey competition. Farr carded a great 10 pars and a pair of birdies to win by two. Joe Cosgrove (11) and Darren Kerr (9) finished second and third respectively after they needed countback to separate them with both returning cards of plus one.

The top-three places were all separated by a point each, Howard Banham (20) won division two with plus five.

John Chaplin (20) took the runner up spot, with plus four.

Adrian Bins (18) carded plus three to take third spot.

Division three saw yet another high-scoring week.

Chris Highfield’s started the day as a 25 handicapper and had an unmatched ten pars to see him return a plus 10.

He earned a three-shot handicap cut, plus an exceptional cut for his outstanding round, to play off 22 next time out.

Ray Rowley (24) and Paul Dafforn (25) both carded plus four to finish in second and third respectively on countback.

Jeff Coles carded 37 points to win division one of the senior stableford.
