BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT have completed the signing of Josh Mayhew.

The striker, who spent last season with Leiston, has penned a year-long FA contract with the Ryman League club.

Mayhew won the Thurlow Nunn League title with Hadleigh United two years ago – finishing top-scorer with 24 goals - and had been poised to join Regent last June.

However, with the blessing of boss James Webster, he left within days following an approach from Witham Town, who had just been promoted to the Ryman Premier.

His progress at Spa Road was blighted by injury and he featured just eight times – scoring once – for Garry Kimble’s side, before joining Leiston in October.

He went on to make 22 appearances for the Suffolk club.

Now Mayhew has put pen to paper on a contract with Brightlingsea, becoming the fourth player to nail their colours to the Regent mast.

Ricky Griggs, Matt Cripps and Phil Kelly are the other three to have penned deals during the close season.

Cripps was joint players’ player-of-the-year last season – along with supporters’ choice Griggs – and also won the manager’s award handed out by Webster.

Kelly finished as joint top-scorer, with 18 goals.

Elsewhere, FC CLACTON have added another pre-season friendly to their schedule.

They will now play Needham Market’s academy side in a match to be played at Brantham Athletic on Wednesday, July 22.
