A prolific pair of Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club teenagers have smashed their way into the record books.
Joe MacGregor and Archie Plant produced a superb unbroken 258-run opening stand in just 30 overs for Colchester under-13s, in their Peter Coe Cup tie at Basildon & Pitsea.
The 13-year-old duo’s memorable partnership was the highest unbroken score in the competition’s history and helped Colchester to a huge 194-run victory.
MacGregor scored a hugely impressive 149 not out, while his playing partner Plant hit an unbeaten 77.
MacGregor said: “It was really enjoyable – I think the highlight was when one of my shots hit the the clubhouse!
“I’ve scored two centuries now this season and I hope to go on to score five.”
Plant added: “We worked very well together – Joe was the more attacking of the two of us and I pushed the singles.”
