Eilish McColgan wants to book her place in the 3000 metres steeplechase at this summer's world championships before earning a crack at three events at next year's Commonwealth Games.

The Scot landed UK Athletics B qualifying standard for Moscow in New York last weekend but will bid to cement her spot by defending her UK title in July.

However, the Dundonian has also achieved the Glasgow 2014 mark for the 1500m and has unveiled plans for an outing over 5000m to keep her options open.

"I am in good shape at the moment, so it's just a case of getting the races in and hopefully competing in good weather," the 22-year-old said. "I was disappointed not to qualify for the worlds at the Diamond League event in New York, but I can't complain as I set my third fastest-ever steeplechase time and my best for a season- opening race in wet conditions.

"It's nice to have the Commonwealth standards out the way early as it eases the pressure a little. I just need to keep fit and healthy and stay injury free. I have been fortunate to have a home Olympics, Commonwealth Games and world championships in 2017 all during my sporting career."

McColgan will switch her base to Loughborough next month when she finishes her Maths degree at Dundee University, backed by support from the Winning Students scholarship programme. The move, she hopes, will gear her up to follow in the footsteps of her mother, Liz Lynch, who took Commonwealth gold in 1986.

"My mum said the one thing she remembers most in her career was the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, with the home crowd cheering her name," she said. "It's hard to think about Glasgow yet, but I'm sure it would be something really special."
