Colchester United general manager Tim Waddington said he was delighted for Tony Humes after the club stayed in League One.
The U’s avoided relegation to the fourth tier after beating Preston North End 1-0, on a dramatic final day of the campaign.
Humes has suffered criticism from some U’s supporters over recent weeks, as the club battled to stay up.
But he led Colchester on a four-game unbeaten run and kept them in the division, in his first season as a Football League manager.
Waddington said: “I’m delighted for Tony.
“He’s a great guy, an absolutely superb bloke.
“He’s come into a hot seat and had a lot of pressure.
“But you can see from the results that it means a huge amount to him, like it does to all of us.
“I’m delighted for him, as much as anyone.”
