A busy weekend at Playgolf Colchester was kicked off by the international pairs.

The competition is a club qualifier with the winning pair going on to represent the club in a regional qualifying round before the national finals later in the year.

Each pair played in a better-ball format off three-quarter handicaps.

Alan Cursons and Mark Turner blew the rest of the large field away with a card of, ten under par, nett 60, returning home with a five-shot cushion.

Matt Gladman and Paul Addison pushed father and son duo Peter and Edward Quilty in to third on countback after both pairs carded nett 65.

On Sunday, Phil Reeve took the honours in the Moorefield challenge stableford competition.

His 37 points consisted of six pars and a crucial birdie on the par three 14th, to see him secure the victory.

Glen Saunders beat Brian Williams to second place on countback with a better back nine.

Saunders card showed five pars, four coming on the back nine.

Williams had five pars, but limited his countback chances with a trio of back nine blobs.

Twenty-five handicapper Greg King topped the large field to win the seniors’ Millennium Cup with an outstanding nett 64. King saw off Peter Smith by two shots to take the title.

Geoffrey Tredgett was third with nett 70.

There was a runaway victory in both divisions of the Ladies’ April Stableford competition.

Liz Schultz recorded a landslide victory in division one, earning herself a handicap cut of three shots by recording a six under par score of 42 points.

This was a massive eight points ahead of nearest rival Gina Macmillan with 34.

Paula Smith carded a very respectable 33 points for third.

Lucy Sadler won division two with 37 points from Maureen Dale in second with 28.

Pauline Jordan took third place on countback from Catherine Harrison, after both carded 26 points.
