ELEVEN Great Bentley Running Club members competed in the Sudbury five-mile race on Good Friday.

Having narrowly missed out on a club standard at the Tarpley 10, Claire Groves put her disappointment behind her to rack up a personal best (PB) of 41 minutes and 56 seconds.

This earned her first bronze standard.

Tricia Stacey, showing fine form, was the leading Bentley lady, with a silver standard, in 40m 53s.

Chusa Batis also notched up a bronze, in 42m 15s.

Mike Belton charged home for the men in 35m 57s, with Phil Presland hot on his heels to equal his PB of 36m 4s.

Ade Cherry, returning to racing after a brief interlude, gained another bronze standard in 36m 25s (PB).

Another Bentley face that has been missing due to injury is that of Martin Owen.

It was good to see him back and running comfortably.

Others in action: Debs Cubberley (46m 20s, for a PB), Luke Groves (47m 22s, for a PB), Lee Clarkson (37m 54s), Sue Sorrell (43m 38s) and John Bush (47m 23s).

Helene Tyler took on the Bletchley Enigma Half-Marathon.

She was the second lady home in a time of 2h 20m 59s.

As always, Bentley runners were involved in Saturday morning Park Runs. Luke Groves (27m 22s, PB) just edged out John Bush at Maldon, while Shawn Leek had a PB at Colchester, in 22m 22s.

Charlie Keitch kept him company, while Bentley ladies racing at Maldon were Belinda Palmer-Barnes, Janine Simpson and Karen Skene.

Paul Hollidge gained a silver standard at the Clermont Waterfront 5km race, in Florida, clocking 20m 38s (PB).

Saturday also saw some brave souls take on The Gauntlet.

Ben Ficken took just over 61m to complete the 12k distance, giving him ninth place overall.

Paul Carlisle and Graham Semple were close behind.

The only lady competing for the club was Willow Carlisle, in 2h 11m 38s.
