Gavin Massey insists helping Colchester United claim three precious points against Barnsley was more important than any personal glory.

Massey was outstanding against the Reds, scoring one goal and creating two more in the U’s important 3-1 victory.

Colchester are now just two points adrift of safety in League One, after recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Massey scored his seventh goal of the campaign for the U’s but said recording a priceless victory was more vital than anything else.

Massey said: “At the end of the day, winning football matches is the most important thing and personal accolades will come after.

“Obviously I want to score goals and set them up but to get the three points is massive for the club.

“I was pleased with my finish.

“I’ll take any sort of goals and I’ve been working on getting in at the back post and making sure the other winger is there.

“Murph’s put it in a great area and I was there to tap it home.

“It’s good for me to get a goal, as I’d been on a bit of a drought lately.

“And it was great for Moncs and Murph to get their goals, to keep their good form going."
